BACKGROUND:
Ray Bradbury's futuristic fireman from Fahrenheit 451 outwits the Mechanical Hound and renounces his role as one of Beatty's "Happiness Boys." He joins a group of men in the woods who have escaped persecution. They have become " living books" by recording them to memory.

YOUR TASK:
From the books, short stories, plays and poems, you have read as an North Salem High School student in grades 9-11, choose one work you feel must be preserved for all mankind. It may be as recent as: A Raisin in The Sun , a work of non-fiction such as Ryan White: My Own Story or a favorite poem from your text. In keeping with Ray Bradbury's idea of one book per person, ONLY ONE JUNIOR may "become" that piece of literature. Read the works chosen by the juniors who have already posted their preferences before you post yours.

FIRST STEPS: In your response to this assignment, begin with a one sentence summary of the work and tell why you would choose to become this work. Tell what this book means to you and in doing so, be sure to include insights and excerpts from the text to explain how this work will continue to benefit mankind.

THE REQUIREMENTS: Use the rules of Standard Written English, SAT diction ( no symbols or text- messaging language ) an introduction, at least three examples from the text and a conclusion. MINIMUM: 150 words
